Style suggestions for your Deadly 50's style party dress!

Here at Deadly HQ we only need half an excuse to be overdressed - and this time of year is just full of excuses to put on a party dress!

We've put together 5 key 50's party looks based on some of our favourite dresses....

First up is the Screen Siren look - glamorous with just a hint of danger.

Our Screen Siren look is based around the fabulous Gia dress by Pinup Couture - this is one knockout dress which is fabulous for flashing a hint of cleavage while disguising any flaws with the beautifully draped fabric. This dress is full on glamour but we know not every occasion calls for an over the top look (sadly!) so we've toned things down just a touch with flat black glitter pumps and a glossy Cruiser bag in black patent. We'd love this look with a black biker jacket too and a slick of Red Hot Red Besame Lipstick, naturally.

Our Hollywood Glamour outfit is a much dressier look!

We've based this look around our Tempest Dress (which is also available in a fabulously flattering shade of blue). This look is designed for stepping out on the red carpet, or a wonderful formal evening. This dress is a classic and we love it with or without a 50's style petticoat (who are we kidding, we always want to wear a petticoat!) To accessorise we've chosen classic Vivienne Westwood Skyscrapers in velvety black, a mink coloured faux fur stole and our glitzy Getaway Bag in Champagne. To finish off we think this look could be taken to the next level with seamed stockings, long black gloves and some time spent with our Vintage Hairstyling book by Lauren Rennells

For an effortlessly chic look which is guaranteed to turn some heads, may we present the Retro Bombshell outfit.

The fabulous Jasmine Dress by Stop Staring! is the inspiration for this look. This dress is a real knockout and doesn't need too much in the way of accessories - your killer curves will do the talking! But baby it's cold outside so we've teamed this stunning wiggle dress with a luxurious black faux fur stole, black satin pumps and a black Mini Gambler bag for all your essentials.

The Faux Vintage Chic look is perfect if you aren't sure just how dressy your do is, this look is not too flashy but we promise you will look and feel fantastic.

Our Faux Vintage Chic style has been built around the Alika Dress by Bettie Page Clothing - a dress which suits just about everyone. This little red dress has been designed to cinch in your waist and flatter your curves from XS-3XL. Like all our Swing Dresses it can be worn with or without a crinoline, but if there is even a hint of a chance of dancing, may we recommend a crinoline petticoat! We've paired the dress with  the delightful black Vivienne Westwood Skyscrapers (which are also available in several other colours including red glitter!) a black lace Capette and a black Sin City bag which is big enough to fit a pair of flat shoes in for later in the evening!

Our final outfit takes a walk on the wild side with our Femme Fatale outfit.

Surprisingly, we've designed this outfit around the Femme Fatale dress by Stop Staring! - a faux leather wiggle dress which will rock your curves and put a smile on everyones face! We just adore matching shoes and bags so we've added leopard print Satin Pumps and the black and leopard Mini Gambler bag. This is a festive outfit though so we've finished off the look with a sparkly jet Crystal Twist necklace.
Everyone loves a bad girl and this outfit hints at yours while leaving plenty to the imagination...

So there you have it, 5 different looks with lots of accessory suggestions.
We love to see how you accessorise your favourite Deadly outfit too though - so if you have a photo we'd love for you to share them with us via the Deadly is the Female Facebook or our DeadlyFemale Twitter

Celebrate Halloween & Dia de los Muertos with Deadly!

We LOVE halloween and the Day of the Dead so this year to celebrate we decided to have a mini photoshoot.

The idea was to have some fun with it and not focus too much on getting products in shot, although we did include lots of Deadly Accessories like hair flowers (all of them!) and twinkly rings.

We love working with Hair and Makeup artist Lolita Noir and wanted to work with our friend Sophie Jones again - she was the first Deadly model!
We were also keen to shoot with our friend Gayle Glover for the first time too & have a fun girlie day at the same time - which is exactly what we did!

Here are a couple of our favourite shots from the day...

Lolita Noir did a stunning job on the hair and make up.
We are so pleased that we filmed it as a quick tutorial with some handy hints for if you'd like to try it yourself.

We hope you like the Sugar Skull Make Up Tutorial and the photos too. We had lots of fun putting this whole look together - as I think you can probably tell.

For more photos please check out the Deadly Facebook Page

Thanks again to Gayle, Sophie and Lolita for a fun sunday afternoon!

7 Steps to quick & easy Victory Rolls!

A short guide to Quick & Easy Victory rolls by Lolita Noir

At the weekend we had a photoshoot and we noticed our wonderful Hair and Make up artist using a handy cheat when doing Victory Rolls on our beautiful model, Gracie.

We managed to grab some behind the scenes snaps and asked Lolita Noir to share her secrets.

Here is her 7 step guide to quick and easy Victory Rolls

Step 1

Section hair off into 3 sections – one either side of your parting, just behind the ear and one large section at the back. A good tip is to put the hair at the back in a low ponytail to keep it out of the way for now.

Step 2

Decide where you would like your parting to be and clip 1 side up to keep that out of the way while you work on the first side.

Step 3

Lift the hair up and out to the side. Back comb the whole section from the back (so the front remains looking smooth). Spray with a good firm holding hairspray and keep back comb until the hair stands out by itself.  If the hair is silky and fine, spray with hairspray first and then back comb.
If the front looks messy when you are finished you can use a soft bristle brush to smooth things out at this point.

Lolita Noir recommends a great hairspray from Schwarzkopf called Silhouette Black Hairspray, Invisible hold

Step 4

When the hair has been prepared, spray the whole section with hairspray. Then take the ends of the section in one piece and clamp them in a set of large barrelled tongs.
Tong away from the face and vertically, it doesn’t matter if the section is messy or not all touching the tongs, this is just a little cheat way of creating smooth rolls and getting the bend needed in the hair.
You may hear a slight sizzle or see a little steam when the tongs hit the hairspray covered hair, do not worry, this is just the product NOT you hair!

Lolita Noir uses the Babyliss Pro Curling Irons, either size 24mm or 32mm

Step 5

When you release the hair from the tongs, don’t pull them out in a rush! Loosely uncurl the tong on itself and then when it’s slack release the clamp, letting the hair free but keeping it in position.  Cup the hair as you pull the tongs out so you don’t lose the perfect curl/roll that you’ve created.

Step 6

While still cupping the roll, mould it to where you want your roll to be by positioning the top curl and then pin in place using kirby grips or bobby pins.  This might take a few tries but don't worry!
Start by pinning the bottom of the roll so you can manipulate the top curl to where you want it to be without worrying about the rest of it falling out.
When you have it where you want it, secure with a grip, give it a good coating of hairspray and do the same on the other side.

Step 7

Once you have done both sides and created your victory rolls, you can decide how to style the back of your hair! Lolita Noir created a dramatic 'horizontal roll under' for Gracie, shown here modelling the Sophia Dress.
However, the back can be styled in many different ways, including horizontal roll-up, a bun or something as simple as wearing it down with curls or wavy.

So there you have it - 7 Steps to easy Victory Rolls.

Huge thanks to Lolita Noir for her trade secrets. If you'd like to know more about her you can find her on her website, Facebook Page or Twitter.

Don't forget you can also grab a copy of our Vintage Hairstyling Book for lots of other Vintage Hair ideas.

Nigella Lawson in our red Billion Dollar Baby Dress on the cover of the Radio Times

We are over the moon that Nigella Lawson is in our Billion Dollar Baby dress on the cover of the Radio Times this week.

We knew there was a tiny chance and had feedback that she had loved our 50's style dresses but you can imagine my face when I popped into W H Smiths and spotted it!

Here is our image of the Billion Dollar Baby dress in full.

We also found the same image in today's Daily Mail - but without the cover writing so we can see it more clearly.

Without wanting to get into the debate too much we feel really bad for Nigella (we like to pretend we are now on first name terms!). It wasn't so long ago she was getting stick for being too big. And I don't think there was a cover on the WH Smith shelves which hadn't had some Photoshop magic applied. We always think she looks fabulous & don't mind admitting to a girl crush. That's our two pennies worth anyway.

But back to the Radio Times, we were also cock-a-hoop that they used our leopard print chiffon scarf to accessorise a white dress (not from us).

So, to sum up, we think Nigella Lawson is a fox and are just too excited she is wearing a dress from our little shop on the cover of the Radio Times.

New Vivienne Westwood shoes for Autumn/Winter

We've had our first delivery for Autumn/Winter and we couldn't be more excited!

We have been looking forward to these shoes for months and at last they are here!

The Vivienne Westwood Skyscrapers in Red Glitter are now available in store and online.

We popped these on Facebook yesterday and we had the best response we've ever had to a photo!
We have really limited sizes & have to say, they are even better in real life!

Also new in stock are flat versions in Black Glitter and Gunmetal Glitter.

We love these as they add shimmer and sparkle to any outfit!

We love these as an alternative to killer heels with our favourite 50's style dress or just with our jeans.

These are such classic shoes - they are timeless, oh-so comfortable and smell like strawberry bubblegum... We just adore them!
A little birdie told us this is the last season Vivienne Westwood will be doing these so don't miss out!
